Problem on iOS4, upgrade available shortly

Pixeet App has a bug on iOS4 which was made available by Apple this morning. The application open in and it immediately closes.

The bug has been corrected and the upgrade submitted to App Store immediately. The upgrade should be available in the next 3, 4 days.

We deeply apologize for the inconvenience.

We are happy to let you know our new version is available.

This new version of Pixeet is a major upgrade in terms of panorama quality and usability.

New functionalities are:

-Optimization of the shooting system (iPhone calibration, virtual tripod and auto capture)
-Faster processing system.
-Automatic angle adjustment between pictures (drastic reduction of stitching errors)
-Automatic hotspot edition system (to navigate between panoramas)
This function is really useful as it allow you to create full virtual tours in seconds.
-Export or the panoramas in QTVR (for backup on local hard drive)

- A new way to view professional photographers portfolio and contact infos.
Professional photographers can now update their profile information and portfolio. This allow any user to view their portfolio contact them directly though the application.

New Shooting system

A new shooting process has been developed and is now under test.

It allow a better shooting position of the iPhone, acting like  a virtual level.
The new system also allow a better positioning of the lens on the mount as it verify if the lens is well centered.

We expect to complete the test in 2 or 3 days so the update should be available on App Store in the next week or so…

Creating a cylindrical Projection

Description

An image which look perspectively-correct when mapped onto the inside of a cylinder.
Pros:
- This kind of panorama can be done with any camera
- Reasonably cheap
Cons:
- The vertical FOV (field of view) is generally limited to 110 to 160 degrees (cannot see top and bottom of the Panorama

Material:

Any compact digital camera or DSLR (Digital single-lens reflex camera)
A tripod with a special panohead which rotates the camera around the nodalpoint.

Technics:

Depending on the lens you usually stitch 8-16 images for a 360 panorama.
Wide angle lenses with a coverage of 60 degrees ore more are usually used. The images are taken with 20-50% overlapping. Any camera digital or analog camera can be used. Several automatic stitchers are available in all prices also free stitchers supplied with the cameras.

*Important for all panoramas:
1. Use manual mode with same exposure for all images.
2. If possible do not use automatic white balance.

Softwares:

Stitchers for panoramic images are available in all prices from free open source software to high end professional. Trial versions are available from most of them.
Hugin is the most famous free (open source) stitching software, there is a full comparaison here.
